Wastewater Division Information

wwtp2

The Wastewater Division currently performs operations of the wastewater treatment facility as well as the sewer lift stations. In addition, personnel also operate the municipal production wells, pumping stations, and water tanks that provide potable water for the City.
The city's wastewater treatment facility currently treats an average of 700,000 to 800,000 gallons of wastewater per day. Water is treated threw our activated sludge process, removing an average of 97% of BOD and 94% of TSS. Treated wastewater effluent is then discharged to the Rio Grande River or is diverted to water the City's baseball/soccer field and municipal golf course. The effluent discharged to the river is of a higher standard than is required by state and federal regulations.
Biosolids are removed from the system by our belt press system and the turned into Class A compost. After proper testing and clearance from the state, the compost is made available to the surrounding community free of charge.
