Desert Diamonds: District 7 All-Stars Little League Tournament Swings into Action!
Truth or Consequences, NM — The spirit of community and competition is alive and well in the Southwest as the All-Stars Little League District 7 Tournament kicks off this month, drawing teams and families from across the region for a weekend of baseball, camaraderie, and local pride.
The tournament is a double-elimination bracket competition, with All-Star teams vying for a chance to advance to the state tournament, and potentially on to regionals and beyond. All participating teams fall under District 7, and the stakes are high for these young athletes.
The excitement of youth baseball begins Thursday, June 19, with games scheduled in both Arrey and Truth or Consequences. The 8–10 age division will take the field in Arrey, while the action in Truth or Consequences will center around the Louis Armijo Sports Complex. There, players in the Majors divisions (ages 9–11 and 10–12), Juniors (ages 12–14), and Seniors (ages 13–16) will begin their tournament runs.
The tournament brings together communities from Lordsburg, Silver City, Deming, and Bayard, creating a regional celebration of youth sports and hometown support. With an expected 800 to 1,000 attendees each day, the event is shaping up to be one of the summer’s highlights. Organizers are working energetically to spread the word and rally even more community support, ensuring this year’s tournament is not only competitive—but truly unforgettable.
At the heart of the effort are Dr. Matt Felts and the dedicated City workers who have poured their time, energy, and passion into making this tournament a success. Felts, who serves as the President of the Sierra County Little League Association, is deeply committed to both the sport and his community. His connection to the game runs deep—his father has a ball diamond at the Louis Armijo Complex named after him, making this event especially meaningful for the Felts family.
But Matt isn’t doing it alone. The City’s staff have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, reseeding the ballpark, improving sprinkler coverage, adding gravel around the bleachers, and installing additional electrical plugs for the concession stands.
In a true display of teamwork and dedication, crews from the Road and Parks Departments were out on the field early the morning of June 13, spreading fresh infield mix to get the diamonds game-ready. Meanwhile, the City Service Center has been hard at work behind the scenes, repairing lawn mowers and other equipment to ensure the fields are in top condition. Final touches like mowing and trimming the grass lines will be completed just in time for the first pitch, wrapping up a community-wide effort to make this tournament shine.
Despite the effort involved, the community's enthusiasm remains strong. This tournament is not just about baseball; it’s about uniting people, supporting our youth, and celebrating what makes our towns and cities special.
To get involved, residents are encouraged to attend the games and cheer on their local All-Stars. Visit the Louis Armijo Sports Complex at 2800 South Broadway in Truth or Consequences next weekend!
